PRUNUS PERSICA

Soon in Palffy Palace

The exhibition PRUNUS PERSICA by Katarína Bajkayová is dedicated to desire, sensuality and indecision about the conception of a child into current social conditions through the means of ceramics and porcelain.
Objects presenting transformations of materials offer an opportunity to intimately tune in to the creation of a space where life is taken care of. The modelling and shine of the glaze demonstrate the pleasure of creation in their sensuality.
The author shapes ceramics and porcelain into both free and utilitarian objects, durable and fragile at the same time. The deep reliefs refer to works in public space and thereby pose a question about the circumstances of a female artist of today. When dry, ceramic clay retains a trace of touch, a moment. A bulge created by the palm of the hand becomes a permanent part of everyday life or the existence of the object through the process of firing. The glaze reflects the world around us and thus invokes critical potential. Similar to the prologue to the 2022 exhibition, it also carries a booklet of texts by the environmentalist and climate activist Zuzana Jarošová, special education teacher Klaudia Husárová, visual artist Alex Selmeci, as well as the author of the exhibition.
KATARÍNA BAJKAYOVÁ (1994) completed her Doctoral studies at the Faculty of Arts at the Technical University in Košice, where she also obtained her Master's degree in the Studio of Free Creativity 3D. She focuses on creating spatial installations from ceramics in combination with other materials, and is currently interested in the themes of social relations, housing, and eroticism, all of which she explores in the context of natural sciences, mythology, architecture, and literature.
