GMB Atelier

Free self-service area for children and adults in Mirbach Palace

Atelier makes visual arts available in an informal way to various social groups - juniors and seniors, families, and people with disabilities. The youngest visitors will find creative games here; young artists can try different art techniques. Please keep order in the Atelier and respect the work of others. The space is also a public co-working space equipped with Wi-Fi and desks. The latest videos from the exhibitions are waiting for you in the projection room. In the evening hours in the Atelier, we invite you to various accompanying programs, workshops, discussions, and lectures, but also for dance performances.

Do you know about the special area on the first floor of this palace that we call the Graphics Cabinets? It is the only space of its kind in Slovakia! The walls of its two halls are lavishly decorated with a set of 290 prints. The artist first engraved each drawing into a copper plate or other hard material, then rubbed it with printing ink, and finally printed it several times on paper. In this way, it was possible to create multiple identical images at a time before photography even existed.
Printmaking is the craft of engraving a drawing into a hard surface and then imprinting it on paper. Create your own graphic art by following the simple steps and instructions. You can make several prints of your design – leave one in the gallery and take the others home. The self-service Studio is available to all visitors during GMB opening hours throughout the year. You can try your hand at engraving at any time, but there are designated days for making prints – Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays during gallery opening hours.

Our youngest visitors can print using modular stamps with basic geometric shapes, allowing for endless design possibilities. It is up to the young artists to decide whether they want to venture into abstract, architectural, or natural forms. During breaks, toys are available for entertainment, and creative supplies are available for imaginative expression.

GMB Studio is a place for creative ideas and experiments. The first Saturday of each month is dedicated to the graphic technique of linocut. Under the guidance of a lecturer, visitors can try out the process; from drawing, through working with an awl, to final printing.
