The Collection of Works by Old Masters at Bratislava City Gallery consists of paintings and sculptures ranging from the Gothic period (the oldest work is the sculpture of Madonna from Vajnory, ca. 1320) to the end of the 19th century. The majority of works represented in this collection are of Central European origin. Great emphasis is placed on the Bratislava circle from the Baroque period and the 19th century. Our gallery has the most comprehensive collection of works of two Bratislava sculptors, Viktor Tilgner (1844 - 1896), Ján Fadrusz (1858 - 1903) and Bratislava painter Eduard Majsch (1841 - 1904).

The collection also includes Italian painting from the 16th to the 18th century, Dutch and Flemish painting from the 17th and the 18th century and single works from other European countries (Germany, Spain, France, Great Britain) from the 17th to the 19th century.

The collection also comprises a unique sample of six English tapestries from the 17th century.
