CLOSER TO THE ART is an educational programme organised by the Educational Department of the City Gallery of Bratislava. It focuses on primary school, grammar school and primary art school pupils in Slovakia (aged 10 – 15). The programme enables young people to get deeper insights into modern and contemporary art, which reflects the world we live in, and to enhance their perception of aesthetic values in the contemporary world abounding in images.
All schools do not have an opportunity to visit the gallery in Bratislava. Therefore the gallery has decided to leave its doors and enter the schools all over Slovakia in an effort to bring the unique values of Slovak art from our collection to the students’ attention. The reproduced works from the permanent exhibition of 20
th century art, 100 YEARS OF REALITY, are administered by the City Gallery of Bratislava as the only institution in Bratislava and one of a few galleries in Slovakia involved in this activity.
The use of reproduced works in the process of education enables the teachers to enhance creative thinking and involve the pupils in such activities at the age when they form their opinions and attitudes. The programme facilitates the understanding of art as a unique attractive field of human activity and influences the choice of future professions and free time activities.
