Stipend of Radislav Matuštík

The exhibition POOR LITTLE ARTIST. The curator heavily harms you and the others around you is the winning project of the Radislav Matuštík Grant, which is awarded once a year by the City Gallery of Bratislava with the aim to support practice of students of art-scientific university specializations on the grounds of the gallery. The grant for young curators carries from his fourth year the name ofRadislav Matuštík (1929 – 2006) – one of the doyens of Slovak art-science, who stood longer than a half century next to the most recent trends of contemporary Slovak fine art. In his specialist’s range one of the most important roles played art of the ingoing generations of young creators, whose attempts he always exactly critically estimated and named. His lectures at the Philosophical faculty of the Commenius University, where he taught and in a fundamental way influenced many subsequent theoreticians of art, are passed on.

The curator heavily harms you and the others around you, was chosen by a specialists commission out of 5 registered curator concepts. Its curators Alexandra Niczová and Eliška Mazalanová, students of the 3rd year of the Department of History of Fine Art at the Commenius University in Bratislava are aiming in it on mapping of the relationship between the artist and the theoretician from the point of view of an artist.
The exhibition POOR LITTLE ARTIST. The curator heavily harms you and the others around you tries to reflect the theme of the problematic relation of artists towards the curators and theoreticians of art. The intent is to view at this problem from two aspects; so, that the artists not only visualize it in their artworks, but also verbalize it in an inquiry in the introduction of the exhibition. The inquiry presents a sample of 10 Slovak artists from different age categories, their opinions and answers to three questions related to the given problems.
In the spaces of the Gallery of Actualities is presented the work by Richard Fajnor oMeNkLaTúRa, photographic portraits of Slovak theoreticians “from the back”, who look like they can not find the right direction. Video by Viera Devečková Talk about future possible concept in a playful form confronts “abilities to express themselves” of artists and theoreticians. Finally, on the toilets of the gallery is placed a remake of the project by Juraj Dudáš Curator is your killer.
