Sculpture Robert Kühmayer and Bratislava

Exhibition Sculptor Robert Kühmayer and Bratislava is already the fourth in a row, after exhibitions of Viktor Tilgner, Ján Fadrusz and Alojz Rigele, monographic presentation devoted to personalities of sculpting at the end of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century on the grounds of GMB. Sculpting creation of the Bratislana native R.Kühmayer (1883 – 1972) was connected mainly with the cultural environment of Bratislava, even though in 1945 he emigrated to Vienna. Kühmayer created some monumental artworks. To the most famous ones belongs the Ducks’ fountain from the year 1914 on the Šafárikovo Square and the sculpture of Piešťany’s Crutch-breaker from the year 1933. Since the nineteen twenties the main position in his work had small creation – Portraits, but mainly female nude. It is a paradox that this exhibition is his first independent presentation in Bratislava, despite the fact, that together with A.Rigele (1879 – 1940) and Jozef Arpád Murman (1889 – 1944) he belonged to the most important personalities not only of Bratislava’s, but also Slovak sculpting.
