Presentation of new aquisition GMB: Bust of Josef Pollak

In March 2011, the Bratislava City Gallery opened to the public a new exhibition room in the premises of a permanent exhibition Central European Painting and Sculpture 1800-1918. The Gallery intends to use the room for temporary presentations of current projects. We are very glad that the first exhibition presents a bust of Josef Pollak, donated to the Gallery by Meghan and Nathaniel Udell from the United States. Josef Pollak, a great-grandfather of Nathaniel Udell, lived in Vienna between 1841 and 1915, and a famous native of Bratislava, sculptor Viktor Tilgner, portrayed him in about 1890. The bust was taken to the USA after the family was forced to leave the country in 1938. The donators wished to place the work to the institution owning a larger collection of artist´s works, and they also agreed to pay the transportation costs.
