Permanent Exhibition

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the preservation of monuments, the City Institute for the Preservation of Monuments (Mestský ústav ochrany pamiatok) in Bratislava in cooperation with the City Gallery of Bratislava launched the project of the renovation of the permanent exhibition of Celtic ironwork and minting. The exhibition presents findings of the archaeological survey carried by the City Institute for the Preservation of Monuments and the Slovak National Museum between 1981 and 1985 at Pálffy Palace in Panská Street. The survey enriched our knowledge about Celtic craft industry in the territory of Bratislava by a number of new discoveries, such as kilns (Hlavné square, Uršulínska St., Radničná St. 1), ironwork workshops (Ventúrska St. 12/Zelená St. 10, Michalská St. 9) and iron melting furnace (Rudnayovo square 4). At the same time, the increase in the number of discovered coins was recorded. So far the largest collection of technical ceramics comes from the Celtic workshop in Panská Street 19: 75 ironwork melting pots and 22 dosing plates used for silver processing and melting, which can be considered unambiguous evidence of minting in the area of Bratislava oppidum.

The project was realised with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic.
