Under the Sign of Virgo
The
author Jana Farmanová (1970) is a Slovak painter, active in the visual art
since the end of the 1990s. The author´s exhibit Under the Sign of Virgo features a thematic scope of paintings and
watercolours on paper connected to the social microworld of coming of age
girls, which is the thematic core of her own „opus magnum“. She reflects the
details of a transformation of a child into a girl and a girl into a woman. She
perceives this defined theme both with its positives and negatives: from kitsch
to the intimate scene of selfdiscovery. She reflect its layering at the level
of understanding and identification (of herself also).
Jana
Farmanová is a figuralist, who works with painterly gesture as a cultivated,
concentrated painterly building block.
At the exhibit she will present her paintings from 2013 – 2014. Considerable
space is provided for her medium of watercolour, which has been less reflected
so far, but which often serves as the author´s recording medium and the
foundation for her paintings.
Since
the beginning of her work the painter uses emotional world, illustrated on a
sequence of a real life situation. As the basis of her work she does not lose
contact with the present and expresses herself by pictoral language about its
pragmatism. In the course of her life work her themes are often repeated due to
her sorting out of her own pictoral archive and in order to achieve her own
iconographic narrative with her paintings. In the end it is the visual
narration which ties us to the painterly juicy images. The spectator is pulled
into the sensual perception of the image, its story, its inner life.
On the occasion of the exhibit an extensive monographic
catalogue was published, with more than 90 reproductions of works.
