The GMB library is closed until further notice. We will inform you about any changes. Thank you for understanding.
The Bratislava City Gallery Library is a specialist library specialized in fine arts, architecture and applied arts. The library's establishment started with the creation of the gallery in the Primate's Palace. Later in 1975, it was relocated to the Mirbach Palace. In 2009 the library received official status, but even before that, it provided absentee loans for internal GMB employees and in-person loans for all visitors. Currently, it also includes absentee loans for external visitors. In addition to publications, it records catalogues, specialist magazines and videotapes from GMB exhibitions. Now, the library has a collection of approx. 15,000 volumes. At the same time, the library is building a Slovak visual artists fund, which we regularly update with current information and articles from the press. It is a specific archival fund of clippings from periodicals or excerpts from other printed materials relevant to the personality and work of a particular artist. The fund contains folders related to 3,212 visual artists and is the result of the work of the Documentation Department of the GMB since 1961. These library materials are accessible to the public for face-to-face study in the study room.
