Closer to the art

CLOSER TO THE ART
The education programme CLOSER TO THE ART, organised by the Education Department of the Bratislava City Gallery, it intended for pupils of primary schools, primary art schools and grammar schools in Slovakia (between 10 and 15 years of age). The programme enables young people to acquaint with the works of modern and contemporary art reflecting the world we live in, and supports their perception of aesthetic values in current world replete with pictures.

Within the programme CLOSER TO THE ART the City Gallery of Bratislava symbolically leaves its gates to bring selected works of modern and contemporary Slovak art from its collections, in the form of reproductions, to schools all over Slovakia. The programme is aimed at the interconnection of modern and contemporary art, with which the young people usually do not have a chance to meet, with the world around us which is reflected by the art and which enables us to understand it deeply.

The programme invites the participants to the adventure of communication with the work of art, to its interpretation. Every year we bring to schools seven reproductions of works from the collections of the Bratislava City Gallery, together with methodological material. The education programme CLOSER TO THE ART takes place on a biyearly basis.

THE AIMS OF THE PROGRAMME:

• acquaint young people with modern and contemporary Slovak art,
• outline the works of art and the artists,
• show possibilities of interconnecting art with the world around us,
• develop creative thinking and skills of young people,
• present art as an important and attractive area of human activity.
